About "Red
wine & White Russians":
"... Another rather well kept French secret as far
as honest, hardhitting and asskicking punkrock is concerned are the Gasolheads,
hailing from Marseille. Yip indeed the same
town where their first release saw the light of day on Lollipop Records. With
"Red wine and white Russians" The Gasolheads follows the footsteps
of the TV Killers and have their first releas on LA's Dead Beat Records. A longlasting
label that's always pretty much upfront as far as international dedicated and
snotty punkrawk'n roll bands were concerned. Dead Beat Records didn't need nor
cared much about hypes or trend, they've never ceased to do the right thing:
putting out punkrawk records which heartfelt punks were always on the lookout
for. Gasolheads nail down 8 tracks of roaddragged, rubberburnin' punk'n'roll
flickers which will stick, inside yer head once they found a willing victim.
Compared to some of the bands previous stuff these tracks have a more midtempo
drive, which allows a late 70s Dead Boys/Heartbreakers touch to creep in. Someting
which mingles perfecltly with the basics Pagans, Teengenerate, Pleasure Fuckers
or TV Killers bashing you get treated with throughout a Gasolheads workout session.
A very fine high standard Frenchy first calss product I should say. Putting
P. U. N. K. back on the map where it's supposed to be!! (Bowy)

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"With this whole “punk rock and roll” thing being
so ubiquitous these days, it’s kind of hard to get too hot and bothered over
yet ANOTHER rude n’ sleazy garage punk outfit. But to their credit, Gasolheads
don’t suck at all. In fact, they're just a notch or two below serious ass-kicking
status! And while their latest slab ain’t exactly about to change the face of
contemporary music, these French motherfuckers give it one hell of a spin! The
lethal cocktail they’re serving up reeks of equal parts bad-ass riff rawk, dirty
& blues-y surf-punk, and good old-fashioned 77-style snot-core. It’s a simple
formula, indeed: guitars cranked to 11 wail away like all hell’s breaking loose,
the rhythm section goes nuts, and some wild dude screams his balls out on vocals.
But it WORKS! This eight-songer dishes out the savage smackdown. If you like
it raw and loose and furious and fun, this is the kind of unabashed rock and
roll onslaught you probably live for! The thrashy trash-bash anthem “From 95
to 99” is my #1 pick to click; also worth repeated spins are “Generation Not
Mine” and the groovy Dolls-esque gem “Hate’s Better Than Rock ‘N’ Roll.” All
in all--as far as this particular sub-genre goes---this is a damn good EP."

About "Red wine
& White Russians":
"I think it would be cool if this band released nothing
but 10"'s from now on. No reason I'm just sayin. So far the 2 they've made were
a very good idea. This band just rocks in a way that I can wholeheartedly wrap
my ears around. Catchy, not fancy, and none of the usual posturing and/or hot
rod type artwork that could go along with their he-manly rock n roll sound.
Europeans don't normally go out like that anyways, and I love 'em for it."

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"Red wine & White
Russians, a great record by these French punk rock 'n' roll quartet. It makes
your feet wanna dance, swing, and makes your head spin like a drug addict who
needs a dose. It's oh so energetic music, with a nice flat and fast beat on
the background. I saw 'em live that was a very good show, and nobody was going
to stop me from buying this record after the show. Great guitarplaying, a crunchy,
chainsaw-like sound. Very unique powerful vocals that fits the music perfectly,
with some nice high screams through it."

"Red wine & White Russians":
"Further
proof that there will never be any kind of "French Invasion". Guitar-drive
rock'n snore, from the land of wine and cheese. Not treally terrible, just fucking
boring. You'd be a hell of a lot better to put on a beret and break out your
DEVIL DOGS records. Play this shit at your next party if you want everybody
to pass out, so you can go through their pocket" (Nervous)

HAHAHAHA. Very charming. drôle! HAHAHA.
About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"A Standard mix of hotrods, booze, and rock n roll
hellfire. From the same pod as the TV Killers, France's Gasolheads dust off
some old 'Thunders riffs', and Pagans rawness, for a high-volume-required blast
of Parisian Punk Penetration. A quick glance at the song titles will clear up
any uncertainties about the band's rocking capability; "What's This Shit Called
Home?", "Hate's Better Than Rock N Roll", "Speed on Tranxene" and "Generation
Not Mine." Everybody get out the white ties for this one. Only eight concise
tracks makes 'Red Wine' a quick, but truly knee-weakening punk rock trip to
the Mystery City and back." Ken

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"Can’t go wrong with a title like that…or can you?
…NO! Of course you can’t! The Gasolheads still have the (better) Safety Pins
sound. So, like, booze it up and turn it up like the animal you are. These Frenchies
(France is my home country, you know… Gotta support!) have the fast rock ‘n
& or’ roll noise with catchy, danceable licks that make me gyrate. Fun".

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"Great 8 track 10" slab of screaming punk rock n
roll from this French 4 piece. You know the score here- guitars slung low &
slashed at, vocals delivered with a sneer & it's all kind of loose & played
with distince venom injections. Songs titled "Hate's better then rock and
roll" & "King of Nothing" give you the idea, although the rampant
closer "Nobody Knows" steals the disc. Fervid, snotdrenched, noxious
punk- the sounds of which can be traced in a direct lineage back to the Dead
Boys. Now that is a recomendation!"

"Red wine & White Russians":
"8 tracks of rampant Garage Punk et Roll from this
French outfit. And further evidence of a strong Gallic Renaissance. As soon
as the needle hits track one "King of Nothing" we're off - blazing, rip-roaring
and they ain't got no-time-to-hang around, just wanna keep socking it to ya
- yeah... sock it to me baby! Kudos to Tom DEAD BEAT for sticking out cool continental
releases like this. C'est Bien!" - (PC)

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"This is a pretty good blast 8 songs loaded with Lazy Cowgirls styled riffage
and distorded vocals. Lots of furious energy drives the rythms and the ghost
of Johnny Thunders makes apparence for a guitar solo now and then. My only complain
is that going all along to France for such an American styled record seems a
bit much-I was hoping for something to add to the heritage of Les Thugs, The
Dogs, Chameleon's Day, Fixed Up or Les City Kids. But it's still fun"

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
"When you see the Dead Beat Records label on a round
piece of petroleum byproduct, you can be pretty darn sure that you can drop
it on your turntable, place the needle on the outer edge, and hear some of the
most high-octane old-school punk rock sounds currently being made. The Gasolheads'
new 10" is no exception. This dirty, raunchy hybrid of '77 punk and garage rock
will quickly find a priveledged spot on your record shelf next to other classic
Dead Beat releases by the Generators and the Stitches. Like the best bands of
this genre, the Gasolheads' music is built around powerful, propulsive drumming
that grabs the listener by the collar at the beginning of the first track and
drags him helplessly across the diameter of the disc, pausing only for a few
swift kicks in the head as victim is released at the end of the mid-paced final
track. Much like the Stitches class 8x12 LP, this can cause most of the songs
to sound similar on the first listen, but again like that classic piece of wax
with each successive listen the subtleties gradually emerge. The two most easily
exploited aspects of heavy rock music, the vocals and lead guitars, are buried
so far below the rhythm guitars' distorted power chords that their more melodic
aspects aren't immediately apparent. However, nearly every chorus is built around
a melody as blatantly hum-able as anything Screeching Weasel ever did, and when
you finally pick up on them on the third or fourth listen, you'll treasure these
melodies all the more. The same goes for the lead guitar, which takes center
stage only for brief solos and fills during standout tracks like "Speed On Tranxene,"
"Generation Not Mine" and "Hate's Better Than Rock'N Roll," a track that also
features a particularly inspired one-note Bill Haley meets the Buzzcocks piano
riff. As an ardent east coaster I count great '77-style punk as one of the few
reasons one might want to show his face out west, and you can add the Gasolheads
to the list of bands like the Stitches, Smogtown, and the US Bombs that make
me wish for a secret tunnel from my bedroom to LA. There just seems to be something
about the cultural vacuum that LA seems to be that makes kids want to turn cheap
guitars up to ten and bang out classic punk rock, and until they can bottle
it and ship it cross-country us poor east coast kids are just going to have
to soak up records like Red Wine and White Russians and dream about these guys
doing a national tour."

"Red wine and white Russians":
garanties sans graisse: King of nothing, It sounds like headache, Generation
not mine, Hate's better than Rock'N Roll, Nobody Know... Superbe pochette
en sus" (Sylvain coulon)

"Red wine and white Russians":

derzeit zahlreichen coolen französischen Punque Rockern hervor stechen

About
"Red wine & White Russians":

About
"Red wine & White Russians":
mich. Gefällt mir sehr gutund gibt genau volle Punktzahl an Sternen. Leider
nur ein Cut-Out, but who cares. der Klavier-Einsatz bei "Hate's Better
Than Rock'N Roll" verrät die wahren RNR Wurzeln.
Genialer

sollen. Oder um's mit zwei Songtiteln zu sagen: "It sounds like Headache",
und "Hate's better than rock'n roll".
(Joachim Hiller)
